Why can’t you call yourself a midwife in Oregon if you are nationally certified?
Oregon law prohibits individuals from advertising as a midwife unless they are state-licensed—even if they are certified by NARM, have passed national exams, and have attended hundreds of births. While I meet or exceed national standards for midwifery care, I choose not to comply with a state system that penalizes autonomy and licenses compliance instead of competence.
